TechxUM directly contributes to EIT Urban Mobility’s vision of creating more liveable urban spaces by addressing a critical skills and knowledge gap in the digitalisation of urban mobility systems. The project is internationally led by UPC-Carnet Barcelona (Spain) and nationally coordinated by Prof. Bülent Çatay, Director of the Smart Mobility and Logistics Lab at Sabancı University.

The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of municipal professionals and young talent to effectively apply advanced digital tools—most notably Digital Twins—for more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient mobility governance. In doing so, TechxUM supports the creation of liveable urban spaces through improved planning and management of public areas, accelerates the deployment of cleaner and safer mobility solutions, enhances Europe’s workforce competitiveness through future-oriented skills, and fosters evidence-based policymaking and behavioural change.
Building on its successful delivery in Spain and Greece, the expansion of TechxUM to Istanbul will test the programme’s adaptability across new cultural and institutional contexts, further strengthening the European reach of the Competence Hub. Over the one-year project duration, a total of four course editions will be delivered: one in Barcelona, one in Thessaloniki, and two in Istanbul. Each course will follow a blended format, combining both online and on-site modules.
We congratulate our professor on this achievement and would like to thank all our staff who supported the project, in particular the Ankara Project Office.
